What makes an outreach DM work

Creators get dozens of brand messages a week, mostly on their phone, mostly templates. The ones that get a reply have a few things in common:

  • It's about them. A specific post or series, not “love your content”.
  • The ask is clear. What you want, by when, and what they get for it.
  • Money is on the table. If it's paid work, say so up front. “Paid collab” beats “exciting opportunity” every time.
  • It's short. Three or four lines. Details can follow once they say yes.
  • It sounds like a person. No “I hope this finds you well”, no “synergies”.

The roaster checks for exactly these, plus the basics of a good brief: goal, deliverables, timeline, usage rights and payment.
